DISCOVERIES > GALLERY OF FINDS > roman boar

Type: ornamental
Broad period:  Roman
Find location: Brinsbury college
During a dig at Brinsbury college in 2008/2009, we uncovered over 90 barbed and tanged arrowheads. This is the most ever found in one location in Britain!

These are triangular arrowheads with curved edges. The central projection at the base is called the tang, and was used to attach the arrowhead to a shaft. The extended points on either side of the tang are called the barbs, designed to keep the arrow lodged in its target.

In Europe, these arrowheads date from the neolithic or early bronze age.
